According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), there are around 1.8 billion young people aged 10 to 24 years in the world. Furthermore, out of those living in low-income countries, around 175 million young people cannot even read a full sentence.

2. Over 73 million of those aged 15 to 24 are unemployed.

Devastating statistics show that 500 million of those aged 15 to 24 live on less than $2 a day. Moreover, according to UNFPA, 73 million of them are unemployed.

3. More than 500 million girls of adolescent age live in developing countries.

Half a billion adolescent girls live in developing countries in the world. Moreover, one in three of them get married before they turn 18. This is according to statistics data from UNFPA.

4. Just 63% of girls finish primary and 29% enroll in secondary school in the least developed countries.

When it comes to young girls, just more than half of them (63%) finish primary school in the least developed countries. Furthermore, less than three in 10 enroll in secondary school (29%), according to UNFPA.

5. 59% of young women (15-25 years old) and 57% of young men the same age are not engaged in community affairs.

Less than half of young men(43%) and women (41%) aged between 15 and 25 are involved in political or civic affairs in their communities. This data is according to research by the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement. With so much youth leadership potential, they have to make more effort to get engaged and included in things happening around them.

6. 58% of youth volunteer to serve their community, while 33% were never engaged in any community serving volunteering actions.

According to research that studied 164 youth from 22 communities, only 58% reported they have volunteered to serve their community to some capacity. On the other hand, 33% of them reported that they never participated in any volunteering for their community.

7. Almost one-quarter of the US population is under 18 years old.

According to the US Census Bureau, there are 74.2 million people in the USA that are under 18 years old. This number makes up almost one-quarter of the overall population, that is 24%.
